Welcome to the Do's and Don'ts of Advertising
Today I will try and help guide you in the best direction to advertising!

Let's start off with a little history.

The first step toward modern advertising came with the development of printing in the 15th and 16th centuries. In the 17th century, weekly newspapers in London began to carry advertisements, and by the 18th century, such advertising was flourishing.

There are all sorts of advertising starting with TV ads, newspapers, billboards, Flyers, and online ads!

But you may be asking your self what ads are best for me? Well let me help!

For starters, you will want to decide your target audience and your reach area, your desired outcome, and how you want to expand!

For example if you are a brand-new pizza parlor in town and no one has ever heard of you, your best bet is to advertise locally such as flyers, newspapers, etc start small there is no rush there is also another good forum to advertise and that would be word-of-mouth were one person tells another and so on and so on!

Now lets dive into the Do's of advertising.

Once you have figured out your desired outcome results you want and your target audience now it's time to pick the right ads such as online, local, etc.

You also have to be careful when advertising to this is where the dos and don'ts come in!

Do's:

Pick a company name and trademark or service mark that has not already been chosen by someone else

Register your company with the appropriate state officials

Obtain trade name, trademark, service mark, copyright, and trade dress protections to ensure that your products and expressions are safe from copycats and infringes

Make yourself knowledgeable of state and national laws and regulations concerning creation of businesses, management of businesses, and consumer protection

Follow all state and national health and safety requirements in developing your product.

Perform the necessary testing to ensure that your product or services stand up to the claims you make about them.

Do your homework: if you claim your product is the "fastest," the "cheapest," the "newest," or anything like that, do your research before making the claim so that you know it is true.

Plan ahead. Develop a budget for marketing that you are willing and able to stick to. Be prepared to spend money to market your product, but know your financial limitations and avoid over-extending your pocketbook

Don'ts:

Don't be a copycat and use someone else's idea for a product or service without their knowledge and approval.

Don't make guarantees or claims in your advertisements that you cannot support with facts and evidence.

Don't advertise in a misleading or deceptive manner. Consumer protection statutes in every state protect against these types of actions and if you are caught attempting to deceive consumers the punishment can be more than monetary -- your business reputation will also suffer.

Conclusion

Always remember to do your homework and make sure you follow all laws and make sure you do not false advertise.

Make sure you have the audience you want and the right type of ads you need for them.

Make sure to take your time and do it right do not rush it as you could mess up easily, and a simple mistake could come back and haunt you! Be careful! And Happy Advertising!
