Making money though VIP memberships.

One effective way website owners can make money is by having a premium subscription plan for members. They can make certain sections of the website unavailable to free users until they upgrade.

But before you do this, make sure that you have quality that is keeping members glued to your website, else it will be counterproductive.

Do you sell premium membership on your website?

Unfortunately, this is not something that you can introduce right away on your websites immediately after launch. You would have to build up something that is going to be of much value to your members so that they will be interested in paying for premium membership.

Of course it is not for new websites. Even if the well established sites are not careful it can lead to the decline of interactions on the site. Bit above it all make sure that you give value for what they are paying for.

I've never paid for VIP account upgrade on any forum. I've never had any us for it. If I'm going to pay for it, it would be just to support the forum owner because I'm impressed with what he's doing.

A lot of forum's users don't pay for VIP membership. It's why I don't see it as a viable means to make money from your forum. Many of those who pay for it the first time don't always renew their VIP membership when it expires.

That's the good point. Tasking members to upgrade immediately you launch your website will only leave you as the site owner with nothing. I think they can upgrade after seeing the values of what you gave them.

I know of a few websites I am active on that they sell premium memberships to their members. Due to the fact that the forum is well established, they make cool money from it.

Yep, you just have to put in the work at first. You will eventually have the chance to make a run for the monetization. Just do not expect to make a huge bucks at first.

They have worked for it which is why so many of their loyal members feel committed to buying the website's premium membership because they know it's worth it. I pay for on a few website for their premium membership.

Selling such memberships can be tricky. Members will not pay for anything if they do not get value from your forum, so you must give them a good reason to dip into their pockets.

I used to own a blog 5 years ago. When I tried making money though selling VIP memberships, it didn't work at all. None of my members paid for it. I started wondering if it was only in forums that works.

You have to be subtle when monetizing your forum though. It can be counterproductive if the members feel like they are being exploited.

I agree. If you're always asking for money in one way or another from your forum members especially when you're not offering them something worth it in return, they will walk away.
